Oracle Grid Control - SUNY ITEC

Post by sam »

SUNY ITEC's adoption of Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control
Dan Brint, Lead Oracle DBA at SUNY ITEC

This session is a discussion of SUNY ITEC’s adoption of Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control as our de facto enterprise management solution.

SUNY ITEC is in year 2 of its adoption of OEM and we now manage over 200 servers and 200 databases on a variety of platforms throughout the state of New York. This presentation covers our history of adoption from its earliest stages through today. Topics covered will include:

* ITEC’s role in the SUNY system
* Our hosted and remotely serviced environments
* Applications we manage and our client base
* EM Architecture and Components we are using
* Our overall project plan
* ITEC’s involvement in Oracles Strategic Customer Program
* Targets we monitor and/or manage
* Interesting uses of EM
           * Configuration comparisons
           * Defining your own metrics
           * Service Level Management
* Future plans
* Q&A

Dan has nearly 20 years experience as an Oracle DBA and currently heads up a team of 9 DBAs within the State University of New York that manage 200+ Oracle databases throughout the State as well as MS SQL Server databases and various application servers.

Practical Analysis of AWR metrics

Practical Analysis of AWR metrics
Jeff Lippe, Master Solution Architect, Jeff Lippe & Associates

I will review the most useful AWR metrics along with recommended thresholds for metric values.  This is a "case-study" oriented presentation.

Bring your own AWR for review!  I will conduct a "live" review of AWRs from the studio audience.  This will provide a case-study approach to applying recommended thresholds to the most useful AWR metrics.

Jeff spent 24 years at HP with the last 20 years focused solely on performance analysis and tuning.  He retired from HP in 2007 and continues to provide the same services to UNIX and Oracle environments.  He typically reviews over 100 environments a year, and after 20 years he’s conducted over 2,000 assessments of UNIX / Oracle environments.
