The Power of the AWR Warehouse and Beyond

The Power of the AWR Warehouse and Beyond
Kellyn Pot'Vin Gorman, Oracle

The Enterprise Manager 12c Release 4 is accompanied with the new AWR Warehouse feature, which allows you to automatically extract detailed performance data from your database targets and consolidate the data into a single location within the AWR Warehouse repository. The main source of data stored in the AWR Warehouse is derived from the Automatic Workload Repository (AWR), via AWR snapshots, letting you retain long-term history of AWR data from chosen EM12c database targets, enabling full historical analysis of AWR data across databases without impacting the source or user database.

This session will cover the power behind this incredible new feature, a full review of the architecture, ETL process and then onto what everyone who's worked with AWR data really wants to know- What is the impact to the existing suite of AWR queries and how much can it really provide the business and the DBA when searching for answers.

Not Your Father's Enterprise Manager

Not Your Father's Enterprise Manager
Kellyn Pot'Vin Gorman, Oracle

EM12c Release 4 Enterprise Manager has been around since the mid 1990’s. Many database administrators avoided it, afraid they would be classified as less skilled using a graphic user interface to perform tasks, but soon embraced OEM's power for performance data monitoring with the release of the Automatic Workload Repository, (AWR) and OEM 10g. During the earlier releases, little time was offered to understand the power of Enterprise Manager's command line interface and how it could replace what was lost with the deprecated Server Manager console.

With the release of Enterprise Manager 12c, the interface has not only changed, but so has much of the framework. No longer a plug-n-play product, the EM12c has been enhanced to a self-service product and a true infrastructure tool. The narrowed view of monitoring becomes one of amazement as you realize your entire infrastructure management, patching, monitoring, and cloud migration can be done from the one console. The Enterprise Manager Command Line Interface, (EM CLI) returns the DBA to the golden age, allowing incredible power to keyboard commands, like nothing they've experienced.

This session will cover all the newest features and coolest tricks that will assist you in troubleshooting issues, fixing problems, and building out an environment that gives everyone from the developer to the DBA more time to do what interests them vs. the same tedious task day in and day out using Enterprise Manager 12c.

Optimizing Enterprise Manager 12c
Kellyn Pot'Vin Gorman, Oracle

Enterprise Manager 12c has been embraced the world over, but with the muti-tiered architecture, addressing EM12c performance issues can often leave an administrator scratching their head on where to start first! This session will take you through the release 4 new health overview and OMS, (Oracle Management Service) and OMR, (Oracle Management Repository) performance pages, along with EM Diagnostics and recommended configurations. Learn how to keep your EM12c environment performing like a well oiled machine!

Enterprise Manager 12c offers some incredible tools to answer the biggest challenges of the IT world. This session will cover a number of scenarios that challenge DBAs every day and then demonstrate what EM12c feature are available to offer resolutions to the pressure the OEM environment may face as added plug-ins, metric extensions, unique monitoring configurations and heavy job loads impact the framework performance.

Each demonstration will display the full array of the feature, covering everything from tips and tricks via the console, as well as the command line interface. Demonstrations to display how managing the environment globally can now be performed like never before. Most will benefit from this session if they are knowledgeable of the Enterprise Manager 12c framework and ready to take it to the next level.

Database 12c New AWR and ASH Features Using EM12c

Database 12c New AWR and ASH Features Using EM12c and Beyond
Kellyn Pot'Vin Gorman, Oracle

The Automatic Workload Repository, (AWR) and Active Session History, (ASH) have been the defacto choice of any optimization DBA when investigating performance issues in Oracle.

This session will dig in deep to the new additions to the AWR and ASH reports, along with the benefits of advanced investigation, trouble-shooting and diagnostics with Enterprise Manager 12c and the command line with SQL*Plus to show the power of the “always- on” approach of the AWR for the DBA who requires data behind their findings to ensure they never assume or guess, which is the first step to losing one’s credibility.

Kellyn will demonstrate how to translate the new wait events, new additions to reports and what steps can be taken for individual findings to gain a new perspective and answers that the business needs in the “I need the answer now” demands of a DBA’s world.
