SQL Query Tuning
Patricia Mariani, Univera Healthcare

Have you ever come across a long running query and had no idea where to start looking for a resolution? Do you look at explain plans and your eyes immediately cross? This presentation provides a top 10 of common things to look for in SQL statements and their associated explain plans, based on anecdotal experiences with data warehousing queries.

Patricia Mariani (nickname Trish) is an Oracle DBA with over 15 years of experience. She has an OCP (10g) and specializes in performance/sql tuning. Currently employed at Univera Healthcare in Buffalo, NY (Excellus Health Plan, Rochester), she has recently been working on tuning efforts on very large data warehouse databases (5+ terabytes) and finds the work very interesting. In her spare time she likes to read, golf, dance, and play the bagpipe.
